Our continued development on Licenzo brought us her at the new version 1.2.0.
We’ve introduced more amazing things with this new release, making your subscriptions more powerful.
Automatic WooCommerce subscription renewals, a new Subscriptions → Health screen, and safer handling of staging sites – the new Licenzo is all about for a better business.
It also includes free migration and several improvements to licence and subscription reliability.
The biggest change is automatic renewals. Licenzo can now renew eligible WooCommerce subscriptions, charge the customer’s saved payment method through WooCommerce Stripe, extend the licence, and record the payment without requiring manual work.

Automatic WooCommerce Subscription Renewals
Licenzo can now handle the full renewal cycle for WooCommerce subscriptions.
When a subscription reaches its renewal date, Licenzo can:
- create the renewal order
- charge the customer’s saved payment method through WooCommerce Stripe
- extend the licence
- record the payment
- keep the subscription and licence status in sync
Automatic renewals are off by default. You can enable them from:
Settings → Integrations → WooCommerce → Automatic renewals
Updating Licenzo will never turn on automatic billing without you choosing to do so.
WooCommerce Stripe
Automatic renewals currently support subscriptions originally paid through WooCommerce Stripe. Additional payment methods are planned for future releases.
Subscriptions using other payment methods continue to work normally and appear in Subscriptions → Health when they need attention.
You can also restrict subscription checkout to Stripe if you only want to sell subscriptions that Licenzo can renew automatically.
New: Subscriptions → Health
One place for subscription payments that need your attention.
The new Subscriptions → Health screen brings together renewals and payments that need review, including:
- renewals that were not queued
- stalled renewal schedules
- failed payments and the reason provided by the payment gateway
- unpaid renewal orders
- renewals held because the site has not been confirmed as the live billing site
- payments where the final outcome is unknown
Licenzo only offers retries when they are safe.
If a payment has an unknown outcome, Licenzo does not offer a retry because the customer may already have been charged. This helps prevent accidental double charges.
Safer Staging and Cloned Sites
A staging site should never accidentally charge your customers.
Licenzo now detects when a site has been restored or copied and prevents automatic renewals from running until you confirm that the site is the live billing site.
Scheduled renewals are held, not failed. Nothing is lost, and renewals can continue after the site is confirmed.
Subscriptions Activate After Completed Orders
Licenzo now waits for a WooCommerce order to be completed before activating the subscription and issuing its licence.
A paid but still-processing order remains pending until the order is completed, at which point Licenzo activates the subscription and issues its licence. This is especially useful for stores that manually review or fulfil orders before giving customers access.
The order note also explains why the subscription is waiting and what will release it.
Refunded and Cancelled Orders Revoke Licences
Cancelled, refunded, or failed orders now revoke their associated licences instead of simply deactivating them.
A revoked licence stays revoked unless it is explicitly handled, preventing unrelated subscription or order-status changes from restoring access.
Licenzo Downloads in WooCommerce My Account
Customers can now find their Licenzo downloads directly in:
WooCommerce → My Account → Downloads
Licenzo adds the customer’s available downloads without changing your WooCommerce products.
Download access is checked against the licence when the page is displayed and again when a file is downloaded.
If a licence expires, access stops. If the licence is renewed, access becomes available again without manual intervention.
Free Migration
Migration is now included in the free version of Licenzo.
You can migrate licence and subscription data from:
- WooCommerce
- Easy Digital Downloads
- FluentCart
- WPSubscription
Migration runs in batches and shows live progress. If a batch fails, Licenzo retries it with a smaller batch size.
Interrupted migrations can resume where they stopped instead of starting over, and skipped records are reported with the reason they were skipped.
Reliability Improvements
Licenzo 1.2.0 also includes several reliability improvements across licences, downloads, database upgrades, and store migrations.
Lifetime licences
Lifetime licences now correctly remain without an expiry date. Existing affected records are repaired automatically.
Licence activation limits
Licence activation limits are now enforced more reliably.
Activation seats are handled safely, and licence validation checks the actual activation records to keep the number of active devices accurate.
Protected release packages
Licence release packages are now stored outside the publicly accessible web directory.
Customers can access them through Licenzo’s protected download system.
More reliable database upgrades
Licenzo now verifies database upgrades after they run and can retry an incomplete upgrade instead of treating it as finished.
Fresh installations build the current database without unnecessary upgrade steps, while existing installations run each required database upgrade when needed.
Safer plugin upgrades
Licenzo now tracks the database version separately from the plugin version.
If Licenzo and Licenzo Pro versions do not match, Licenzo shows a notice and waits until both versions are compatible before running.
